  • Front curtain retrofit

Well I have started my next project, my leaky front plastic enclosure.

First, I removed the 3 wiper motors to find 1 completely rusted internally, one with corroded connectors (which fell apart) and one motor in usable condition.

I then removed the metal track which is installed in 6 pieces around the wiper motors and seamed at the windshield angles.

Next, I cleaned the corrosion and prepped the frame with acetone. I then bent and cut a new track to run the full length of the windshield frame and installed it with the round section facing upward. I ran a bead of silicone under the track and screwed it to the frame.

I will redrill the wipers tomorrow slightly lower, and my canvas guy is templating tomorrow PM and installing on Wednesday.

I will post some pics when completed.

    Lose the wipers!

I removed mine after one too many smelling smoke experiences followed by the pop of a fuse going. Rainex is my friend

I saw a CC28 a few years back which had replaced the 3 panel front with a 2 panel piece; one less connection and visual distraction. If you can solve the leak via the seams between the front track and side curtain track patent it and I'll pay you a royalty. I had a velcro flat put over the entire front piece which solved the drip between the panels, but I still get soaked at the corners where the front panels meet the side panels.

      Larry,

My new front will be one piece only as I never opened the 3 panel setup anyway. I'll let you know how it all works out.

        Curtains and wipers complete!!

Well, it is all complete and it seems as if I have managed to cut down all water intrusion except for a slight drip at the top corners. I'm real pleased with the results.

As for those wiper motors, they are JUNK!! I had to replace 2 of the three as the terminals on the back corroded to nothing, and one rusted to bits internally.

Don't feel so bad about your wiper motors. I had to replace one already. Mac knows they are junk but he said no one makes a good one. He told me that he went through about 7 different makes and one is worse than the next.

            Front panels

My front panels (windows) are separated at the bottom plus the zippers are bad. Do I have to replace the entire canvas or can I replace only the 2 front panels? I have a '95 25'.

            Thanks,................................
