  • What rod holders will fit the 28?

I am going to be adding additional rod holders ito my gunwals and transome. I was looking at the LEE 30 degree, heavy duty but I am not sure that I have enough clearance given the angle of the tube on the rod holders. Does anyone know it the 30 degree holders will fit?

    Thanks,
    Rich

The heavy duty 11" long Lee's will only fit on the port & starboard gunnels & you will be limited to the amount of outward rotation on the holders as you move forward on the gunnel. They will not fit in the transom. 15* heavys may, I do know that 30* medium duty 9" long fit in the transom.

I bought mine from the factory a couple of months ago to make sure I got the right fit for the transom. I'm putting them in the next non-fishing weekend. 30 degree, 9 inch.

Just make sure to ask them for the hardware too.

I have 2004 28 carolina classic and I changed my rod holders to Lee 30 degree rod holders and the original holes had to open up a little for them to fit.

Thanks guys - I spoke with Keith, the LEE medium duty holders will fit. I purchased the Lee heavy duty holders which are 2" longer and 1/4" larger in diameter than the medium. The heavy duty holders will NOT fit.

I successfully installed two rod holders in my transom on Saturday. I created a jig by drilling a 2 inch hole in a piece of 1 inch pine. Even though the rod holder fit well into the jig, the angle on my hole in the transom was off a little bit. I filed it a little and the rod holder fit nicely.

I used a very large wood clamp to hold my jig in place but it still required another set of hands to hold firm while I drilled.

I ordered the rod holders from Keith at the factory and he sent (Smith's) 30 degree 9 inch. They just barely fit and I had to take the back edge of the rod holder all the way to rear edge of the non-skid surface on the transom. I actually started cutting my hole 1.25 inches forward of the rear edge of the non skid so no part of the rod holder would be off the back edge of the non-skid.

There was just barely enough room in the width of the transom for the angle to fit....no more than .25 inches left.
