  • Grease Fitting for Gimbal Bearing w/Jackshaft

    Good Afternoon,
Can anyone help me out with this one, Need to grease the bearings, is it the plug on in inside at the 12:00 position on housing? On the starboard engine, it is underneath the steering linkage. Do I replace the plug with a grease fittinng? I was expecting to see fittings already there?

Got all of the Volvo shop manuals and I can not find anything in it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Only a couple of more weeks until she goes back into the water....

    Thanks Jon

    Bix:

The only grease fitting I'm aware of is the one at 12:00 inside the transom. There is no grease fitting for the u-joint in the bellows. On my 25CC, to reach the fitting requires an extension for the grease gun and stretching back under the aft floor hatch to reach it.

If you have a need to remove the baitwell, then it's a piece of cake to reach.

    Hope this helps,

    Rascal

      Grease Fitting

Thanks for the help Rascal, one question for you:

I have a plug (straight head screw) at the 12:00 psotion. I am not with the boat, to check, but is the fitting in there, or do I have to take the plug out and replace with a fitting?

      Thanks again
      Bix

        Bix:

There should already be a grease fitting there for the steering arm. The gimbal bearing is self lubricated unless you remove the jack/driveshaft.

However, without a picture it's tough to answer your question. But I did not have to install a grease fitting, it was already there. I recommend you call Mac at Carolina Classic. His number is (252) 482-3699. He can give you a much better answer.
