I was reading my latest copy of Boat U.S. Magazine, January 2007 and stumbled across an interesting article. Atleast for those that are powered by the 8.1 GM block. It reads that there is a "fuel rail pulse dampener retainer clip that may fracture, allowing gas to leak." According to the article, "the retainer clips were not heat treated properly duing manufacture and environmental conditions like vibration and corrosion can cause them to break." I wanted to share the article with everyone due to the fact that they play such an important role in supplying fuel to the injection system and their malfunctioning could create a bleak outcome in a closed engine room should vapors and spark be present. My intention is only to create awareness of the possible situation. The article lists a contact for Pleasurecraft Marine/Crusader: 803-345-1337, www.pleasurecraft.com and Volvo Penta: 757-436-2800, www.volvo.com along with other contacts to determine if the recall affects your motor. Just thought I would pass along the info for those who may not be aware of the recall such as myself prior to reading the article. Should anyone know anything about this please feel free to pass along the information as will I when I learn more.
