  • Is barrier coat necessary???

I am getting a new CC28 which is under construction. I have heard both pros and cons about the barrier coat before the first bottom paint job. It is costly, and the boat will be in the water for only 6 months a year here in the Northeast (Mass). I previously owned a Grady White that did not have the barrier coat, and there was no blistering, and no one here has ever seen a blister on a CC or a GW.Can someone give me some good advise? Thanks,

Always get a barrier coat if you are planning on bottom painting. You'd hate to look back if you ever have blisters and wish you had done it.....

I have never heard of any negatives but that does'nt mean there are'nt any. It is a lot of money but in the big picture it is not for the protection you get. I had mine done at the factory.
Life is to short for an ugly boat

I have that in my order now, and wanted some unbiased views. Thanks.

The paint system that goes on at the factory is a great system . . . and is priced very competitively.
