  • Washdown Pump CC-28 2001

I know I saw this posted earlier but I can't seem to find it now. My wash down pump needs to be rebuilt or replaced. First, how do you get to it? Is the only access through the step access? Is there a better pump for the job? Mine has been pretty weak and won't pick up suction when running. The suction side is clear at the thru hull fitting.

You should be able to pull out your frig and get right to it.

      Almost killed me!

Location of that pump was not Mac's finest hour

Remove the fridge (mine was out already which made my job 1 hr easier.). Now you have to take out the enclosure around the drawer. I recall pain, lots of it from contorting myself to get the screws out.

Once you get to that point its straightforward to remove the 4 screws; disconnect the hoses and replace the pump. For the pain and effort to get in there its smarter to replace than rebuild

My fridge has been out for 5 years now; I made a cover our of plywood for the opening and use the area where the fridge was for non essential storage.

I actually moved my washdown (Installed a Groco C-60) into the engine room mounted on the port foward bulkhead next to the thru hull. This made any needed maintenance on the pump much easier.

I second the Groco pump. That is just about the best pump you can get and moves a lot of water. When mine craps out, that is what I am putting in but will use the C-80 which is for continous use.

            Groco pump

I seem to remember that there might be an issue with the circuit amperage using the Groco pump. If so what do I need to do to avoid the problem. Is is just breaker or is it wiring too?

              No refrig for 5 years

Larry, after you removed your refrig! where do you keep the BEER?

Sorry, I just had to ask.

                Seperate DC panel Added

I had added a seperate DC panel in the galley next to the AM/FM radio for a spotlight, underwater lights & the Groco washdown pump. I do believe it required a 30 amp breaker. The switch on the dash labeled saltwater washdown now only controls the shurflow pump for my livewell.

Just went through the same thing. before buying the new pump. there is a strainer in the feed line right by the pump. the only thing wrong with mine was the strainer needed cleaning. had picked up some trash over the years.
