Having problems with port throttle. When I throttle up the port does'nt come up in RPM's like the starboard, have to jiggle the port throttle to synchronize, very annoying. They changed the dill valves, checked for air in the hynautic systems, and now they say could be the potentiometer. Anyone ever had these problems.

I have a 2001 28 and have the same problem with the port engine not coming to RPM the same as the starboard. Don't really know what the problem is.

      throttle problems

what type of engines do you have ? i have a 2000 28' with 250 cummins and i've had the same problem , my port engine hangs up around 1800 rpm before the turbo kicks in, usually after long idle or troll at low rpms . check boat diesel .com if you have diesel engines .Aneriod adjustment ?

Are you having problems with the port engine while on the synchronizer???

If that is the case and you have the glendinning mechanical sync the probable issue is that the sync clutch is slipping and needs to be adjusted. The CC Binder will have the manual for the sync in it and that contains instructions on adjusting the tension on the clutch.

If it is a problem with the motor coming up to rpm slower than normal when not on the sync that can be any number of things -- fuel restriction, air restriction, etc . . .

What motor package do you have??

BTW you should NOT bring your boat up on plane using a mechanical sync!! The port (slave) motor is always going to lag behind and you are putting a ton of stress on the starboard (master) motor in the process. Bring the boat up on plane and then engage sync. Those with electronic engines (QSB/QSC, etc) this does not apply. Sync in this case is simulataneous electronic control of both pumps/governors . . .

Boatdiesel.com is an excellent source for marine diesel engine info.

I have 300 kamd diesels. When I put full throttle to come on plane the rpms seem to go up fine, as the boat comes on plane I have to start backing off thats when the port is around 500 rpms lower. Then I push the port throttle up and back and then the rpms start to go up when I get them even off I go. Very annoying. I checked the hunautic system pressure Ok 75lbs Changed the dill valves in the throttle but not the slave dill valves. When I throttle up in neutral they both go to the 1500 rpms evenly. Maybe try to change the potentiometer.

I have the 250 cummins diesels also. Did you ever find out why your port engine was slower to up to than your starboard?

                Throttle Problem

I had the problem and it was a "smoke screw" adjustment. Mechanic took about 2 minutes to adjust it.

what exactly is the smoke screw adjustment?

at 1800 rpm, sounds like your injectors on the 250's may be needed for replacement....that seems to be a tell tale area right before the turbos spool when the engines fall on their face....and the injectors decide to cause a miss
