  • What Fluid for Hydraulic Hatch

I need to add some hydraulic fluid to the reservior for the engine hatch.

Can anyone tell me what type to add as I can't reference it anywhere.

I have some Coastal Hydraulic Jack Oil, but want to make sure I use the right thing.

    Thanks

    Hydraulic fluid?

    PCP,

Excellent question. I need to know too. I had a small leak and need to add some to the reservoir.

I have all the manuals and literature from purchasing the boat new and I can't find any reference to it.

This might require a call to Mac unless someone has experienced filling or replacing the fluid.

I need to top up too. The hydraulic fittings on the hatch lift for my boat seem to take turns leaking and make a mess of the bilge. Should these fittings be sealed with teflon tape or similar? The dealer tightened them up at my 20 hrs service and again at the end of last season. Now I have another one leaking agian. Love the boat though.

        Hydrulic fluid

That's where mine has leaked. Only once so far. I was concerned about over tightening these connections into the lift tubes. I've stopped the leak for now.

I put a generic hydraulic fluid in their earlier this year that I bought at home depot. I've probably had the hatch open 30-40 times this year without a problem.

            Fix That Leak !!!!!!!!!!!!

You Can Use The Same Oil That You Use In The Trim Tabs..
This Is What I Have Been Using On The 2000! 25 That I Traded In On The New 25 Inboard....There Is A Leak On The Fittings That Go Into The Ram, You Can Pull The Fittings/ Put Teflon & Sealer On ,this Will Take Care Of The Leaks... The Oil We Used Cam From Merc !!

If you should disconnect the lower lines from the cylinders and leave the adaptor fittings screwed into the cylinders be sure not to lean the lifts too far toward the front of the boat. You will crack the fittings that are screwed into the lifts. In case you wonder how I know I'll leave you guessing. I had a hard time finding replacements though. I think they were standard straight thread not pipe thread on the the part that screws into the cylinder. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I know HD and Lowes didn't have them. I found them at a local hardware store.
