  • Water Ingestion

Picked this info up from another site that was critiquing a 30' Pursuit. Just wondering if anyone ever had a problem.

"You didn't mention what motors are in the boat you are considering, but if they're GM gas blocks I would go to www.thehulltruth.com and do some searching on "Water Ingestion" as I recall that Carolina Classic was NOT the only manufacturer that was having that problem."

I don't know why Carolina Classic took the rap for this. It has nothing to do with what boat they are installed in. They have had problems in lots of other makes but just not very publicized.

At least Mac tried to solve the problem. You can't say that about the other manufactures.

      Water Injestion

I have a 2000 25 Carolina Classic and after just 125 hours my 7.4 injested water. Volvo in the beginning was blaming the exhaust system on the boat for the problem. After going back and forth with them they relized that it was there problem (GM BLOCK). Mac was very very helpful in getting things sorted out. I received a 8.1, paid the upgrade difference and also replaced the exhaust with the updated exhaust. I have 460 hours on my 8.1 and have not had a water problem as of yet. I hope I am not jinxing myself, but the 8.1 is a total different package then the 7.4.

        Water Ingestion

I went throught this **** also. Volvo installed a new 8.1 under warranty without any upgrade charge. They also gave me a new set of props.

This is definitely a GM problem resulting from valve overlap. Crusaders also have valve overlap(GM block) but they ultilize a superior fully closed cooling system. There is also an installation problem in the 25. The riser height according to Mac is only 13" when it should be 15" by Volvo's spec. Throw in fuel 4 guys and gear and that 13" height becomes even less.

When I first received my 8.1, it was coupled to an older exhaust system. This resulted in water problems once again. Volvo gave me another new 8.1 with the latest exhaust system and I now have 650 hrs on it but I did find salt deposits recently on the valves, compresson is fine though, no damage. My boat is for sale because I want to move up to the 28CC.

I have not looked at the post on THT - but was this only a problem with the GM's or did it also involve the exhaust system installations and other engines on the CC's? is it something to worry about with vovlo diesels on a 28?

            Water Ingestion

Only a problem with fuel injected gas inboard engines from Volvo and Merc. The problem exist in both the 25 and 28 CC gas boats and many other manufacturers like Albemarle, Pursuit, Luhrs, searays etc. In many cases the recommended riser height is lower and only adds to the problem. What I can't understand is why engine manufacturers approve these boat installation spec's if they are wrong??? The fuel injected engines, specifically the big block 7.4's and 8.1's will ingest water with the recommended riser height anyway but proper installation should be followed in my opinion.

              Ingestion

Had the same problems with my 25 too and finally sold it for almost what I paid new from CC of NJ.

Mako, where in NJ are you located? I had problems with Gary at CC of NJ also, thats why I bought my 2003 28 used with only 30hrs from a private owner in Delaware.

                Ingestion

Ramp, I live in Egg Harbor. I'll probably buy used but in either case my future business with CC of NJ is history. We are not the only ones who complain about this character.

Has any one had any experience with the MP2K Alum exhaust system, as detailed under about us - latests news at http://www.marinepowerusa.com/

                      Thanks for the feedback
