  • CC 28 drive questions

Are CC 28s inboard or are they IO? If they are inboard can you tell me if the drive/props are reasonably protected from mild running aground?

Anyone have pics of the underside of a CC28?

    Just curious,

    Ben

There is a deep v - which carries all the way to the transom with your running gear exposed (shafts, props and rudders).

      Inboard

don't run in shallow water or you drop a K per incident. MY boat never goes into less than 20' of water unless I know the water intimately.

        Thanks

I've been running my 24 Regulator out of narrow/shallow inlets and I admit to a couple encounters with the [soft] bottom. My outboards and boat have emerged unscathed and as I dream of [maybe someday]bigger boats wondered just how scared of shallow water you need to be with inboards. I guess the answer is "very".

keel is 34" down and the props & rudder are 2-4&quo

          so guess what gets it!

A soft sand/mud encounter isn't going to kill you at idle speed; but I wouldn't want to have a prop strike at planing speed as that's going to through something out of alignment.

The problem w. an inboard is you have to pull it to service the props and that's $200 before you even get to the hours labor to pull them; the 500$ to rebalance them and the other hour to put them back on and launch you.

Its close enough to a grand per encounter to do your best not to have any!

            Inboards

I guess thats the advantage of full skeg inboards, though on small boats that means a single. Wonder why CC doesn't put some kind of protection in front and below the prop...a guard of some kind? Just wondering.

I assume this is your 28' CC - how do you like the 4 bladed props? what differences have your experienced between them and the factory standard 3 bladers?

Ok now I'm confused. I'm looking to buy a CC 28 and the one that I've been considering has Volvo diesels with outdrives and Duo props. However the pic posted earlier shows a 28 with shafts and rudders as opposed to outdrives.

Are they available with both configurations? Do the Cummins powered boats have shafts and the Volvo powered ones outdrives?

                    28CC

The 28 is available with both set-ups but IMO, I would never want two drives to maintain.

I don't want to maintain a pair of outdrives either. Are the Volvo diesels available with shafts?

Have a 28 CC with twin 330 cummins. Real fast boat.
I'd suggest looking at the engine packages real good.
