  • Jackshaft Noise

    Hi,

I am looking at a 2000 Carolina Classic 25 to purchase. One of the problems with it is there is a "clanking" noise that seems to be coming from the jackshaft while at idle. As soon as the engine is put under stress (ie. put in gear) the noise subsides. I am wondering if anyone else is having these same noises?

      Jackshaft Noise

I had that noise from day one at idle when I owned the 25. The noise disappears when in gear. Don't worry about it.

        Noise in jack Shaft

Own a '95 25 'er. Bought last spring. Great boat but also encountered the "clanking" in the jackshaft. Long story short...replaced the cv joints and had it balanced. I feel that my problem was more severe that the other owners had described. We have not had the boat in the water yet this year. I am anxious to see if the noise appears.

The clanking is normal. To check to see if the shaft is balanced run the boat up to 3000 to 3300 rpms. If there is vibration then the shaft needs balancing. My gut feeling is the noise you hear is normal.

Mine also clanks around at idle with the Yanmar 315 for power. It clears right up as soon as you come up on the RPMs
