1995 Merc Gas Inboards. While running offshore last week our Port Overheat Alarm started going off. Both Engine temp and pressure were fine. Reading the manual it says the alarm can go off for 1 of 3 reasons, engine temp, oil pressure or Trans temp. The only thing that is odd is that the alarm wasn't the same as it normally is (when the test goes off while starting the boat or when the engine is actually overheating). It was a faint whine so I'm not sure if it isn't just a short somewhere. Has anyone ever had this happen or has anyone ever had the trans overheat? Transmission seems to be fine and the fluid looks great.
