Could someone recomend a conditioner to reduce scaling for the heat exchanger on a KAMD 300. I am just trying to do some preventative maintenance, thanks.

Heat Exchanger conditioner for scaling

I would like to do the same on my KAMD 44p's. All I saw in the store last week was a conditioner made by "Woody Wax". There not what I would think of as specialists in this area so I didn't buy it. So, what is a good recommendation?Bullish

I flush religeously with Salt Away. 4 oz in a 5 gallon flow through after flushing for 10 minutes on fresh water.
I'm lucky enough to have my boat on a lift so it's very convenient.

Groco flush kit
Bullish-
I installed the Groco Flush kit (model SSC-1250) and this is for a 1.25 inch hose. I placed the flush kit after the sea cock inline with the hose. I also installed a raw water strainer (model ARG 1210-P). Groco Marine's phone number is 410-712-4242 or you can shop online at www.groco.net.
Hope this helps.

raw water strainer
Dtaylor,
I installed the same Groco flush fitting. I debated installing the additional raw water strainer.
I also have the KAD 300. You wouldn't happen to have pictures of your strainer installation?
Also, how often do you find debri in the strainer that gets by the hull strainer? I know this depends somewhat on water conditions where the boat is used.LRC

dtaylor,
Thanks! Appreciate you looking up those numbers. Question: I must assume that you didn't have raw water strainers to begin with? My strainers were installed when I bought the boat new so I assumed they were standard issue.

I don't think I have any pictures but will try and remember to take some this weekend. I mounted the strainer to a stainless steel plate and then bolted the plate on the port side of the motor stringer. This was the only place I could find to place the strainer and have enough room to connect the water intake hose. I fish out of Wachapreague and during low tides we get a fair amount of dirty (muddy) water and on higher tides the grass can be bad due to 7 miles of marsh to navigate before getting to the inlet. I also placed hydraulic hose protectors on the raw water line at all points the hose was in contact with the stringer or where it passed through the bulk head. You can purchase these at any hydraulic shop and just connect with a zip-tie. This will prevent damage to the hose from vibration since you will be removing it from the hose cradle along the motor. I decided on the second strainer b/c I just felt the one on the bottom of the hull would just allow too much debre to pass thru to the water pump.

I ordered and received the Groco Flush Kit (model 1250 as mentioned above).
It is straight. One end is threaded and the other end is ribbed to fit inside of the 1.25 inch raw water flex hose.
Ideally the Groco flush kit would work better better on my boat if it was a 90 degree elbow, otherwise the intake flexhose will have to be connected from the top instead of horizontal...that will not work well. To install this kit, I would need to remove the 90 degree elbow already there. How can I just install this straight flush kit in it's place?
Can one of you guys take a picture for me of how you have installed it?Bullish

Groco
Bullish,
I had to add a 90 degree elbow to the Groco. That also caused me to have to replace the hose off that new connection to the engine.
You can buy the 90 degree elbow at West marine. They are made in China and I had difficulty getting a good seal.
If I get a chance, I'll take a picture today and try to post it.
