  • Rudder Alignment Cc28

During pre purchase survey the stbd rudder was noted to be down 1/2". Just got the boat here from FL and brought it back up no problem. That got me thinking however as to the alignment between both rudders. I would suspect that rudder alignment is pretty critical for performance, economy and rudder stress. It appears the both rudders are slightly "toe in" which I have read is correct for twin screw boats. A couple of questions:

    1. Is there a spec on this to check/adjust?

    2. I don't see any sort of alignment divot on the rudder post for that may have been facory installed, am I missing something?

    3. The rudder bearing (axial collar) that the rudder basically hangs on has one stainless bolt that basically pins the post to the bearing, that was loose when I started and the apparent cause of the rudder slipping down 1/2". I would expect that bolt to engage in a recessed divot in the post but cannot ascertain that is the case without total dissasembly. Is just the "pinching" force of that bolt to the rudder post all that holds the weight

    Thanks

For those that care to know; I talked to Keith today at CC and on the 28 the rudders are set up "toe in" by 5/8". That means that the leading (fwd) edges of your rudders when measured across are 5/8" closer than the trailing edges (aft end). I am not sure if that spec is applicable to all model years. Mine were exactly 5/8".
