Great ride. I almost bought a 28 last year. All the CC have such great lines. I could look at them all day. My wife thinks I'm nuts although she is probably right.

I really like the changes Mac has made on the 05's.
Kinda makes me wish I waited.....
But then, I would have really missed out!

          changes in 2005

Here's what Reel Screamer/Steve had to say about the 2005 model vs. his 2004. I borrowed his post from the other forum. I'll sure he'll be around here soon.

"Here is my list of what I noticed had changed on your boat (05) vs mine (04). Much of the list is a repeat of what you mentioned and photographed above but there are a few more differences I noted.

The 2 oval windows on either side of the cabin (one in the head, one above the galley cabinetry) have been eliminated.

The underside of the hard top is now smooth gelcoat. Mine is roughened fiberglass.

The 2 handrails under the hard top have been replaced by a single one down the centerline.

The red/white dome light under the electronics box (under the hardtop) has been eliminated. There is now a small red light above the helm, recessed into the hardtop, and there is a separate, small white light above the corresponding port area.

The caps on the fill ports (fuel and water) and waste port are different than mine. Mine have a pop up feature to grab onto that is normally recessed. The feature rotates on a pin at one end when the opposing end is pressed. My caps, in my opinion, are of a poor design because the pin resides in a small through hole from which there is potential to allow water entry. Really only a significant concern on my fuel cap. Anyway, if that description created the right image in your mind - I like the new caps Dave has much better.

Macs tower pics that I had seen showed a "1 butt" seat in the tower. Dave's boat has the bench seat like I have (I had my tower added in CA by Pacific Yacht Towers). The aft looking spreader lights are integrated and flush mounted - under that seat.

The two side "ankle" compartments in the helm area look a little heavier duty than mine and are white. All 4 corners of both of mine arrived cracked due to over tightening of the screws but the silicone was well applied and I have left it alone. There are fewer tackle drawers in the port tackle center but they look sturdier and they are also white. The bomar hatch in the cabin is also white.

The tubing supporting the tower and used for routing is difinately larger id - looked like maybe 2.0 - 2.5 inches i.d. Routing my hydraulics and electrical lines in the tower I added out here was tough. I would have loved to have the larger i.d. tubing.

Mac switched to a sportier looking 3 spoke steering wheel on dave's boat.

Macs tower is really neat. I like the ladders being inboard for added safety. I think my control box is a little further forward than in Macs tower design because I seem to have more open area up in the tower to move around in.

The Yanmars look very nice and they seem to consume a little less area than my KAMD 300's. The only thing I did not like about the Yanmar install was that the coolant reservoirs were mounted on the sides of the engine compartments at the front of the engines - making them harder to access. It looks like Dave's raw water through hulls and associated plumbing are larger diameter than my raw water intake system. I'm guessing this is a Yanmar requirement.

The cabin fabric had been changed to more of a blue color.

Dave's boat has the optional wood flooring in the cabin and a corian (sp?) counter top. Both look very nice.

Dave's microwave was "waived" and Mac built him a storage compartment with a matching door in that corner. I like that as I have only used my microwave twice.

After all these years making a great boat Mac's still practicing continual process improvement on the 28. I think that's great!"

            Steve is right on....
Mine does have some of the same changes, like the finish and grab rail on the underside of the hardtop along with it's lighting. I've seen other pics of '05's with a seat built in on top of the port tackle station. That addresses the only thing I'd change about the 28, which is the lack of seating for a 4th or 5th passenger. Mine also has a seating arrangement that will easily accommodate 2 in the tower--it's also much easier to get into than earlier models. All in all, Mac continues to improve upon an almost perfect boat!
