  • 28' Carolina Classic Older Boat w/New Owner

    I recently purchased a 1997, 28' Hardtop, Twin Inboards.
Volvo TAMD-41P's, I’m planning a repower for the winter.
No real electronics, which will be upgraded.
Presently going through the boat on several maintenance issues.
Boat is located in Pt. Pleasant, NJ.

    Congrats

Your notes states that you are considering a re-power. Curious, what engines are you planning to install?

    Diesel

Welcome, I think I stopped by and chatted with you on Channel Drive last week. I repowered two years ago with the Cummins 4 BTA's - anytime you want to see the boat - let me know - I keep in on the Glimmer Glass - directly accross from the draw bridge.

            I did that

            w/ a 98 w/ old KAMD42 Volvo's.

I went to the new Volvo D4-260 and had the repower done by Layton's Custom Boatworks right next to the factory.

I have nothing but good things to say about both the work Layton did and the D4 package.

I believe it is now up to 300 HP.

W/ your 28 and old style engine room I do not believe you will be able to get either the Cummins 330's or the D6 in there; and you will be left w/ a choice of D4 or the Yanmar.

Yes I believe you stopped by. Your boats name is Kimbee, if I remember correctly.

                Lou,

Correct, the boat's name is Kimbie II and it is on the Glimmer Glass. If you have any questions on anything on your 28 - just let me know and I'll help you out.
