Hi all - I run the Calypso out of Montauk, a 28' CC. Am seriously thinking of stepping up to a 32' and was wondering if anyone out there made the similar jump and what your take is on the 32' and comps to the 28'. I am looking for a little more size for offshore and love the lines on the 32' and would love any feedback on performance, strengths, etc. Am looking at the 32' with the new 480 Cummins. Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks!

CClassic28, Chris just made that move. He did fish on my boat once this past season so he could give you a good comparison. I think Missprint also made that same move. There is a big difference is size. More than you would think.I would expect a real time cruise of 30-32 kts fully loaded for a canyon trip with those engines.

Thanks Tom - what's been your experience with the 32? How does she handle a beam-to or quartering sea, and does she stay dry with the quarter sea? Th3 28 is a great boat but am looking for a little more boat to ride heavier in the water. Also - do you have any option recommendations or things you'd advise to include?

I have'nt had any handleing issues that present a problem. Beam sea is no problem and when you get the quartering to head sea you just need to slow down a little not because the boat pounds but rather you need to keep it in the water on the swells. I've had mine out a few times but it is a smooth re-entry. They are heavy at about 24000lbs which helps with the ride. You do get some water on the windshield in a quartering sea with strong wind but not that bad.Probably about the dryest boat I've been on

My dad had a 31 Shamrock which I named the collender because of all the water that came over the top and a soft top that leaked bad. You needed rain gear in that boat.

One option I would strongly suggest is the freezer boxes. They work great and save a lot on the ice. I had all 3 done on my boat and do not regret it one bit even with the 7500$ price tag. I added the windless with hopes of using it in the canyons but the anchor locker can't hold 1800ft of line. If I was doing it again, I would get the windless with the capstan option on top of the regular one which can be used independent of each other and bring my rode in a bucket which I do anyway.

On the cruise issue with the 480s, I think you will be at 30 kts fully loaded running between 80-85% load. I get 25 kts with the 380s and I think Missprint gets around 27kts with the 425s

the size difference bewteen the two is incomparable mainly because of beam and the overall bigger feeling. i have the 425 and i do get around a 27 kt cruise with full fishing gear. the 28 was big for its size but i feel the 32 is much bigger for its size. i also recomend the freezer plate i have just the one in the fishbox and it solves the problem of having to buy tons of ice and watching it melt. i you have any specifics let me know an i will help you answer them.

buy it now you want regret it
