  • Gas Fumes?

    Hi,

I have a 96 CC 28 that I bought this last spring. When I put gas in, I smell a lot of fumes for the next few hours. I have inspected everything that I can think of and can't determine what the cause would be. I can't find any kind of leak or even any cracks in the gas lines. I leave the blowers on when I put fuel in and it smells the same whether I put in a half tank or a full tank.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

can you see where the fuel hose is clamped to the deck fitting. it may be worn or cracked enough to leak gas you can smell but not see.

      I agree with Biteme

If you smell it only when you fill up, I think it would be the fill hose or vent line that is loose or bad.

Thanks for the response! I did check out the fill hose, but I don't think I actually found the vent hose, I'll have to double check!

Another thing to check is the sending unit. Maybe the screws are loose or the gasket might be bad. If it is leaking you will see a stain on the tank. On the new boats, Mac uses screws that have an o-ring on them and are one use screws meaning that if you take them out you have to replace them. Not sure if you have them or not.
