I have 25 CC 2005 with a KAD 300 and C4 Stainless props. Boat is loaded with about every thing you can put on it. With a full cooler box, fuel tanks, bait tank and 4 people the only way I can get out of the hole is full tabs and move every one up to the helm. Have been working on this for 6 months with Mac and my dealer in Ohio. Both say the boat is proped right. Something else is wrong! Boat smokes heavy trying to get up ( fuel that is not being burned) but runs great once it's up. Will run 27 Knts at 3300 RPM @ 12.5 GPH Top RPM is only 3650. Have talked with 2 Volvo mechanics, one in San Diago and one in Cabo, Mexico (Boat is in Loreto, Mexico, 8000 people, no nothing, dirt streets, Cabo 350 miles San Diago 750 Miles) Both say the props are too big no question! At least a dozen other people there say they had the same problem on their boats and smaller props were the fix. No Carolinas. Two 26' Blackmans there with KAD 300s, they are not as heavy and they are both running C3's. What are you other 25 CC owners running for props and how long does it take to get out of the hole? Have a 100 hours on the boat thats almost my total time on a boat like this. My other boat is a 16' aluminum Lund with a 25 HP tiller outboard we fished with in Canada. Bit of a learning curve! Super Charger on KAD 300
Steve, Yes it has a compressor(super charger) Running the boat on the trailer while flushing the engine the pulley on the compressor kicks in for a few seconds and shuts off. No load so might be ok, was going to try it on the water when the shift sensor went out. I can't tell by the sound if it is or not. Should be quite a whine. Not alot of boat experiance, but have ran heavy diesel equipment all my life (one of the reasons my hearing isn't so great any more) But even if the pulley in turnning, doesn't mean the compressor is working. Thanks Vaquero No engine error codes, only on shift problem

I have the 2004 KAD 300 in my CC and have run with 4 people with no problem. I do not run my tanks full which means usually carrying a total of only 80 gallons of fuel. I also don't use my tabs because it's such a pain to remember to bring them back up to put the boat in the lift.
I did have a slipping belt that affected performance but it was obvious as it was squealing until I fixed the problem.
I too wish there were an easy way (besides listening for the whine) to know whether the compressor is operating properly. When the boat was new, I seemed to be able to hear the compressor but it's not obvious now. Makes me wonder whether it's operating properly even though the boats performance seems to be o.k.LRC

I just bought a new 25CC w/Volvo D4-260 (no compressor). My last boat was a 265 Albemarle w/KAMD44P-B 260 HP. I believe (in spite of CC's numbers, that the Albie was a heavier boat than my CC25). I ran C3 SS props on the Albie and WOT was 3900 RPM ( I cruised at 3300).
I had two problems with the Albemarle that affected its perfomance. The first was a combination of bottom slime, high temperature/humidity and warmimg the engine at the dock...add all that together with 3-guys and rigged for tuna...and it took forever to get up on plane (but no black smoke).
The second problem was a failure of the electro-magnetic clutch that engages the compressor. I was trolling offshore when it failed and I heard the compressor click off. Comming home, lots of heavy black smoke and really slow acceleration...but once the turbo picked up speed, performance was just about normal. The EDC did throw a code for the clutch failure, so in addition to the obvious lack of acceleration it was easy to identify the problem.
Frankly, if you're getting a lot of black smoke in addition to poor acceleration it sounds more like a fuel/air supply issue rather than incorrect props.
Hope that helps...and please let us know how it's resolved.

P.S. Have you checked the fuse for the shift sensor? On the Albemarle the fuse holder for the electronic shifter was located directly under the oil filter. When I had the shift problem, the first thing I checked was the fuse. It was good, but I replaced it anyway. In short, to avoid making a very long and very expensive mistake (like I did in needlessly replacing the electronic shifter)...shoot some contact cleaner into the fuse holder and see if any oil runs out.
That was the only problem with mine!

Fuse check
Steve, Yes we pulled the fuse and it checked clean and ok on a test meter. I don't know if I sent the info out but I sent the shifter to a volvo mechanic in San Diego and he confirmed that the sensor was bad. Hope that fixes that problem. Thanks, Vaquero

Vaquero,
You you should be getting more out of your engine at WOT. I have a 2003 CC with the same motor and turn 3850-3900 WOT. I am running the same props and usually fish with w/ four men, full of fuel, ice and enough tackel to start my own tackle supply store. I do run my tabs down coming up on plane but back off once up, we have even fished 5 men on the boat this year and had little trouble getting up. I do have a little smoke when I dump the throtle to come up on plane but clears up very quickly. Hope this helps.

Vaquero,
I bought an '06 25cc from SouthShore. I presume the same dealer. I went with the Crusader gas motor which is rated for 4400rpm. I have only been able to reach 4000rpm. I have asked Tom about it a couple of times. He last said he would ask Keith and Mack about changing the prop size. I realize that I didn't buy a race boat, but I would like to see it perform as advertised if necessary. Let me know if you have made any headway.

Crusader Inboard
Hey Shrinkage, W/ The Exception Of The Rpm Issue, How Do You Like The Crusader Overall? I Am Looking At Picking Up A Late Model 25cc And Was Intially Considering Diesel; However, Good Diesel Mecahnics Are Hard To Come By In My Area And I Will Probably Not Put More Than 100 To 150 Hrs Per Year On The Boat, Likewise Not Justifying A Diesel. I Have Read Nothing But Great Reviews On Those Big Blue Engines. They Appear To Be Maintenence Friendly, Reliable And Fuel Efficent For A Big Block. Your Thoughts Please.

My boat, new name (Nightmare) has been down with the shift problem for the last 5 months so have not been able to try smaller props yet. 70 hours on the boat and I've got $3500 in trying to make it work and thats with out another 760 mile service call. 2 differnt trips to Mexico, total of 7 airline tickets at almost $900 each to fish and boat wouldn't work. No help!!!! at all from our dealer. They didn't offer one suggestion on how to fix the problem. Have to see the boat. Yea sure!!! boats 4000 miles away. Said just call Carolina.
