  • Anchor size

I need to get a new anchor for the canyon trips. What size and type would work best for my 32? I will have 1800' of 1/2" nylon with about 20' of chain.

    Tom,

I run with about 1500 ft of 3/8" line, 30' chain and a 16# standard danforth anchor. I have sucessfully anchored in 550' water with this setup.

IMO, I would increase your chain to 30' and use a 25# standard danforth and you will never have an issue. You could get away with a 16# (which is rated for boats to 36')

How does the 28 behave on anchor in deep water?

does she roll like she would at drift? I use a sea anchor and door and have never tried anchoring in more than 100' of water.

I also have a 15' sea anchor but have'nt tried it yet. I wonder if the chute would be easier than the anchor? I will have to try it this year. It seems that 100' is easier and faster to pull in than 15-1800' of anchor rode.

          Larry,

She sits pretty nice on the hook in deep water with some exception to the nights we have wind against current and she tends to sit beam to, which is not the best position fo the 28.

Have you made any runs to the nice looking water that has been pushing through for the last 6 weeks? I have not been able to make time during the week to get out there and the weekend weather has been horrible.

                I wimped

On the Monday/Tues weather window over memorial day. I too have not switched into the summer mode of weather windows driving work schedule.

If there's a window Friday -> Monday I'll either shark at the Fingers or make a run for one of the Atlantis's. In the meantime - bass fishing is outstanding up here....
