  • 28 Windlass

For a while I have been thinking about adding a windlass to my 28 for those days that I am short handed and want to fish locally for bass, flounder... I know that some have had issues with their windlass' performance. I would like to hear the good, bad & ugly and any recommendations on a unit to install. I would much rather install a vertical windlass (merely for looks) but I know the horizontals seem to perform better. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!!

Mac put the Lewmar V series on my boat. The book shows V2 through V5. Not sure which one I have but it is a vertical chain rode windless. I haven't used it enough to give you the full picture The only problem that I have had is the rode bunches up on the output side when retrieving but I think that is caused by the twist in the rode. I think if I used it more it would help. I might put a good swivel between the anchor and the chain to help with this.

The only other problem that I see would happen is that there is not enough drop in the anchor locker and might cause the same problem. My original plan was to fill it up for the canyon but I think it would be packed to tight to work right. You would probably have to hand pack it when retrieving. Might be a pain .
Life is to short for an ugly boat
