Even though we do not have very cold weather down here is South Alabma i still have a few questions on proper winterizing techniques. Should i put an automatic heater in the engine room this winter or will the battery charger provide enough heat? Should empty my water tanks? Thanks!

Heater fire.

Need to be very careful putting a heater in the bilge. A Topaz burnt up two winters ago because an old heater with bad ground was put in the bilge. I normally winterize all the fresh water systems mid november, once the temps start to get below 35 at night. I'm in NJ, on really cold nights I run the engines to warm up the bilge right before I go to bed. I'm on a lagoon, realize most can't do this, but I haven't had a problem yet.
