I am just about to pull the trigger on a new set of props from Acme propeller. I have talked to Mac and he is talking with Acme about what they should be. Right now he thinks I should get 17x20 with a large cup to them. I have 330hp Cummins with a 1:1.23 reduction gear. I am currently only getting about 24 kts at cruise with a set of Hy-torq 4 blade. He thinks I will gain about 2-3kts and more next year when I sand my bottom paint smooth. (I didn't do myself any favors this year and applied my paint with a 3/8 inch nap roller). Anyone running acmes and if so did it improve your speed and/or fuel economy? Also if anybody needs a spare set of hy-torqs I would part with a set of mine for $400 for the pair. I have two sets and would part with one.

What rpm are you turning at cruise I have the same engine and gear setup
and easily cruise at 27-28knots I bought a pair of acmes last year.
They helped alot coming on plane but not much on top end or cruise.
If you have any questions let me know.2000 CAROLINA CLASSIC 28 330 CUMMINS

At 2500rpm I am only getting 24 kts. I just had my props redone this spring by a local shop. I do not think they put enough cup in them. I figured why pay to get them redone when I would prefer nibrals anyway. Do you happen to know what the specs are on your props? How much cup did they put on them? Mac is thinking that if I go with a #8 cup it will help with top end and cruise speed. He says he can get me a set for $1500.Jim B.

Finhunter, what rpm are you getting 27kts? I am glad to hear that acmes get you on plane faster. Mac said the 1:1.23 gear was slow to get on plane. One last question, what is your WOT speed and rpm? Thanks.Jim B.

Hey Nutz
I just put Acme props on and they make a world of difference for me , 2000,28,250,s, sanded paint down smooth and repainted and it feels like a different / new boat , 24 knots at 2400 rpm , up on plane much quicker . Criuse at 2500 and it feels like it's flying compared to the past .I bought the props from amce and they were not cheap , price has gone up alot in the past year . No questions they make a noticable difference .28 Classic - Brown Eyed Girls

Stanley111, thanks for reply. I talked to Mac again this morning and he is ordering them for me for about $1500 for the set. He says they should make a big difference. Hopefully I will be as happy with the change in performance as you are with your boat. I believe Mac stated that amce is now the standard prop for the 32 and 35 coming out of the factory. Not sure if they are putting them on the 28 as standard equipment. My props are coming with a #5 cup and after I run them if they need adjustment Carolina Classic will recup them for no charge. Can't beat that.Jim B.

I have an 01 28 with 250's and have had the same results as stanley111. I put them on last year and noticed the difference right away, the thing that impressed me most was coming out of the hole, It's definilty planes faster, Not a rocket ship but compared to before it's alot better. 1500 is pretty good, I paid more than that directly from Acme.
One thing to be careful of, they are a lot thinner than the hy-torqs. I would do my best to try to not hit anything or run aground. They are designed to perform and that is what they do, but don not like like they will do to well hitting anything.
Nick,

What gears are you running with the 250's and the Acme's? I have the 250's, with ZF63's, 1.563:1 ratios, just sandblasted the bottom, put it in - no tower - and cruise at 20 kts. on the GPS at 2,500 with a full tank of fuel and two adults. The EGT's and boost numbers are right on spec. Digital floscan tach's verified with a photo tach.Capt. B

Finhunter, thanks. I hope mine gets close to yours after I reprop. Anyone else who is interested in acmes I would go through Carolina Classic. If you purchase direct from acme they sell at msrp, so as not to underprice their retailers. Mac cant be selling them to me for much over what he pays for them, if any. If you have Carolina Classic ship them to you out of state, no sales tax, just shipping charges. Should get increased fuel economy also, so in theory the ames will pay for themselves over time.Jim B.
