  • Mounted Video Camera?

I'm looking to purchase a video camera that can be easily mounted (somehow) to the back of my tower. I would like to record the action during trolling and chunking for tuna. Has anyone ever seen a device that could attach a camera to the back of a tower?

Check with Blue Moon. He has a camera mount that he uses for his center rigger. At least I think it is a camera mount.

You can get one here but it's not cheap.

you can always take a tripod from walmart, one of the ones in the photo section of course, cut the shaft and legs off of it. this will leave a tube from the bottom and the mount on the top for your camera. now take an old removable straight gimbal butt from a offshore rod, pacific bays or aftco work good, now glue/epoky/weld or somehow affix the pipe from the tripod into the rod. you can move your camera from holder to holder depending on where the action is, and you can still pan and tilt regardless if on the bridge, tower, or in the cockpit.

          Bullfish,

My video cam is hard-wired and fixed to the back of the tower canopy. It is a C-CAM produced by C-MAP for marine enviroments. It is connected to my Northstar 600i thru the video input.

Thanks Blue Moon. It looks like your model is designed to be used for viewing through electronics. I'm looking to tape the action and compile it at the end of every year.

Captain Spike-Thanks for the link. This is what I imagined might exist. I'll have to find out which video cameras are compatible with this.

            Anyone else have a suggestion?

I think the thread is standard on pretty much all still and video cameras.

                Bullfish,
The video can be veiwed on on my electronics display, but I also have a DVR (digital video recorder) mounted in a cabinet in the cabin. It will record up to 40 hrs of video that I can transfer to a digital video camera or computer. There are portable DVR's such as the units built by a company called ARCHOS http://www.shoparchos.com/searchresu...&culture=en-US that are reasonable and make it easy to tranfer to home devices.

As you can see, I've just started learning about the different options available. Thanks for the advice and the links.
