Got a later start than I wanted to saturday morning. Broke the inlet about 230 and headed between the hudson and toms since I was'nt sure where to head.Lines in around 6. Heard a few reports from the Toms but nothing great but they did say there was some life so we headed south along the 100. got to the tip about dark and set up on the chunk. Turned on the UW lights and had squid within 30 min. First time I used them. Netted some for bait and waited. Nothing. Heard on the radio of a few fish but not great. We decided to make a move around midnite and a rod goes off but was a 8' hammerhead.
Moved 4 miles south of the tip and started over somewhere around 130. First rod goes off before all lines were in. We had constant action for the next 2 hrs. We went 11 for 13 up to 60lbs. The 2 lost were pulled hooks right away. Had to hand line one in after getting wraped around the rudder and another line with a fish.
After talking to 1 or 2 other boats, the UW light made all the difference. They were using the hydroglow and had no squid. We must have netted 4-5 dozen.
Ocean was flat, no wind and hot. Water was 80.8 when we got there and never changed. No breaks.
Passed on the troll since we had our limit.
Last pic is my father who is 79 dressing out our 1st fish. He is like the energiser bunny.Last edited by Split Decision; 08-07-2006, 03:32 PM.Life is to short for an ugly boat

Finally,"Spool's Out" (1995 Carolina 2is in her slip for 2006. We had our motors removed in early March for a rebuild and the promise of being back in within 6 weeks! After 4 months of delays and excuses, we had to pick up the mostly complete motors ourselves and hand them over to experts at our marina in Somers Point to complete the job.
The boat finally hit the water, Friday and against the advice of our mechanic we decided to use a trip to the 40 Fathom Fingers (inside the spencer) Saturday. We left the GE Inlet at 4:00 am and were greated by "choppy" NE 3' - 4's for the ride out. Once clear of the Claw things laid down and we found ourselves in great conditions other than greyish/blue water. We started in the troll at 7:30am and had our first yellowfin in the boat by 8:15. We ended up going 5 for 5 on the day with YFT's from 35 to 70lbs. All fish were caught on lures we rigged/made ourselves and varied from rainbow squid daisy chains to a bird/green machine daisy chain trolled on the WWB.
We are certainly looking forward to great second half of the season!
