  • Hudson Canyon 8/26-28

If my mechanic repairs my blown injector tomorrow AM I will be shoving the dock @ 1-2PM and headed for the west side of the Hudson to spend the night.

    Anyone else planning a run?

    Will be on 65 & 78

Left from Monmouth Beach NJ at 3:30 for a day troll in the Hudson. As soon as we arrived at the Letters, had a triple of yellowfin, boated 2 - about 35 lbs. and that was it until 1:00. We had what I beleive was a bigeye on for about an hour and fifteen minutes - after he almost dumped a 50W - and pulled the hook about 70' from the boat. Overall an enjoyable day.

Day trip between Atlantis and Veatch

I fished well east of all of you along the wall between Atlantis and Veatch. Left at 3; lines in at 7 at a 74-76 degree break and weedline. After dropping a couple mahi a blue marlin cut across the spread and absolutely buried a Joe Yee lure. It dumped all but 100 yards of a 50SW before we got after it. We stopped the run, gained some line, but lost it on the next surge; line burred and frayed through.

We picked up a couple small yellows and a decent mahi in Atlantis then literally ran over another big blue marlin cruising along 15' down. This one whacked a bird and had a slash or two at a Wide Range before fading off.

For the most part the tuna bite in my area has been scattered along the shelf - the marlin fishing has been superb. 3rd blue we have got a hook in this year and have had 2 others slashing the spread.

Did I mention I love my D4's? 25-26 knots out at 3040 RPM in the dark; 28 knots back in the day at 3150 RPM. 6.5 hrs running 7.5 hr's trolling - 160 gallons of fuel burned!

1 overnight and 6 easy day trips to the canyons this year - thanks to Mac's advice and help! These trips were out of my league a year ago with the old engines.

Spent Friday night down on the 046 line on the west side of the Hudson. Water temps went from 75.5 @ the elbow up to 79.4 where I set up for the night.

We worked all night only to boat a small sword @ 2:00 and not a touch or mark until 4:20 when we then proceeded to go 6 for 7 on yellows to 70# (4) and longfin to 50# (2) The bite lasted until 5:40 when we finally ran out of chunks (5 flats)

All night we has loads of squid @ the boat but no fish!

Pulled our gear @ 6am and trolled till 10 and put one more nice longfin in the boat (about 65#)

Ran back to FI with smiles on our faces, overall going 7 for 8 on tuna and managing another decent trip out on the edge.
