  • Mako Finally

Went to the fingers on sunday and finally caught the first Mako on the new boat. Nailed the first one within 1 hr which was only about 4 1/2 ft and released. 1 1/2 hrs later we hooked another about the same size and released it. 1 hr later we nailed the third one which was 6 ft.

It was fun to watch someone who never fought a Mako before. It came to the boat pretty fast and he said that was'nt bad until he saw the boat and went south in a hurry. That happened two more times before we shot it and had our first Mako on the new boat.

They have been scarce this year but at least we got one for the book.

    Tom,

Congrats on the fish!! How has the boat been performing for you?

I am running tomorrow on a friends boat and hopefully we will capture one of those toothy critters. My last 2 shark trips on my boat the weather has not cooperated and I've been fishing in some real snotty seas.

I hope tomorrow's weather cooperates this time.

    Regards,

I hear you on the lousy weather. Every trip it has been 3-5' and I have been having first hand experience with the snap roll. It is not bad up to 4' but when you get the 5's it gets down right nasty but a small price to pay for the great ride.

Aside from the port gear problem the boat is performing far better than I expected in the ride and handling dept. (they removed the gear again today).More on that tomorrow when I know more.

        Hi Tom,

Congrats on the mako. Any news of yellowfin showing up yet in the area? I hear what you guys are saying about the weather. The sea are 3-5's every weekend. The height isn't the problem it's the 15+ knot wind that turns it into a chop, that's the bummer.

There have been a few yellowfin caught recently at the Hudson. A friend got 3 longfin last thursday at Hudson. I heard of a yellowfin at the reasor on sunday so it should'nt be to long before they come in strong. I hope it's better than the sharkin has been this year.

Just pray for some good weather.

            yellowfin to the east

this was on a friends boat out of Nantucket last weekend; but we got 4 good yellows to 85#; a bunch of rat 15 pounders we tossed back; a ton of gaffer mahi, released a white and dropped a blue.

Lucky Cape is getting 1st shot this year!
