  • Canyon 8/14-15

Weather looks good for tuesday. Going overnight and see if we can hit the right spot. Not sure which canyon yet. The lindy was hot late last week but cooled down a bit. Now I think the bite is back north. Just waiting for the canyon runner report in the morning to decide. Will let you know.

    Anyone else going?

I was out fishing yesterday and heard some guy and the radio saying that he did 6 for 7 on the yellowfin all on the troll and he caught one sword on the chunk. He was coming for the Wilimington. Good luck and catch em up!

We broke the inlet about 1 pm and headed for the Hudson on the canyon runner report. Got to the 100 square about 4:30 and rode around for some bait. Tied up in 520 ft and started chunking about 6pm. They said the troll was dead because the fish have been hanging deep so we decided to not troll and go right to the chunk. Within 1/2 hr we had a big blue shark on and cut him loose. Saw the fleet building just east of our location and decided to relocate 2 miles east.

Had our 1st runoff at 8pm and he broke off due to a 40lb flouro leader being used by mistake. 15 min later had a triple runoff with all 3 landed. 70-80 lb class yellowfin. After that we had a runoff about every 45 min, 2 of which were blue sharks. Ended the night with 5 out of 8 yellow all 70-80 lbs.

The wind started kicking up about 5am out of the west which is a quarting sea for us so we passed on the troll and headed in. Good move on our part since my dad is 80 and I did'nt want to beat him up. Ended up at 4-5 buy the time we got in.

All in all a great trip.

Buy the way, if you catch a 80lb yellowfin with a gaff in his tail could you please return the fish. You can keep the gaff as a reward.

Love the bloody shots the best...no pictures at the dock every compare.

So I guess this means the chunk bite is on.
