  • Shark Trolling

This is something I want to try this year because of all the dogfish. They have been bad the last few years and i'm sure this year will be worse.

Does anyone know anything about trolling?

I know you troll between 4 and 6 kts. Not sure if you chum or not. You need large lures or mackeral with a large bright skirt but that is about all I know.

    Any input would be helpfull.

Tried it last week in the SJST. In between moves trolled up our slick which resulted in at least one hit and miss. I was able to rig the bait ( split tail mack) in a way that it really swam well. However, need to get the hook back further in the bait as I got short bit behind the hook. Bassically we are trolling about 10oz jet heads with skirts. I am rigging the macks similar to the way you rig a ballyhoo. Through the gill, out the stomach and tie the mouth shut through the eye of the hook or a loop in the cable. The baits swam great at about 4knts. We were very pleased with the results even if it was over a very short period of time. We will definately be working to perfect the process and spending more time at it over the next few weeks. I will post updates and pics if I can get a few.

Thanks for the input. I have been doing some research (what little their is) and what you have said is what I found. I will post up some results as soon as I give it a try.
