  • Sirius Weather

Added Sirius Satelite Weather to our Raymarine C-Series and all I can say is wow.. What a great product. We fished last Saturday about 20 off when a weather alert popped up. Flipped over to the display and there it was a couple of nasty storms moving off shore with about a 2 mile window between them. We were fishing near a smaller center console with no radar and gave him a heads up. We split the storms and didn't get wet at all. We could see the lightning off the port and stdb sides. Thing is dead on. Fished again Monday in some questionable weather and it was awsome. The surface temp readings are great too, nice to put the cursor over the break and hit go to. Nice feature to have when fising off shore..

Is the Sirius system compatable with Furuno? How much did the system set you back? I saw the system in one of fishing magazines but I wanted to hear first hand how it performed before I purchased one.

I know Furuno was working on it but not sure which unit you have to have and what it entails. The SR50 reciever and antenna for my Raymarine C-Series was around $600 and the subscription is about $26 per month. You can take a 6 month subscription for the summer and add music for about another $9 per month. One cool thing is that we were able to connect the SR50 to our Sirius ready tuner in the cabin and we can control the music selection and volume from the C-Series at the helm.

PC - I think your boat with those engines is probably a bit faster so just get in front of me and I'll tell you which way to turn

The Furuno Sirius NavNet module only works with the C-Map versions so it depends whether you have C-Map or Navionics.

If you really want it and you have Navionics, it is not too complicated to change over the VX2 units that use SD cards. Much harder to do the first generation NavNet because of the card reader differences.
