I went thru this last year while installing all new vx2 electronics in my 98 28 330 cummins. What a bitch to decide where to put the b260 which i had to have. I ended up putting it in the same spot where the old one was installed next to the water intake. What a job cutting the fairing block no room for mistakes here and it wasnt quite tall enough so i had to fill in some on top of fairing block outside edge but not very much. Had to make a filler because of stem size difference and used lots of slow cure 5200. It seemed like to only option for this large of a thru hull unit. It is well outside of props an acording to airmax the water pickups are ok being next to the transducer. Seems to work fine to about 27 kts in the crusing mode and down to about 1300 ft fishing. Also if i remember right i had to cut some of the fairing block to clear the pickup. So it is possible to put it at the old location and it will work but it aint easy. This location also means strapping your boat front a little more forward when in a marine lift maybe 6" Hope this helps an cood luck.
