I ended up putting the Icom bracket mounted on the 8" space between the console and the hatchway and notching the side of the console to allow the wires to pass under it through a grommet. I was about 2 minutes from drilling a hole in the side of the console when I realized "duh- what happens to the wires when the console is opened"!

The 3rd picture is of a hasp I installed as extra security from the console falling forward in seas; I'll pass a bolt and nut through it to secure it when running.

It looks good I just hope it is not used as a handle in rough seas. :?

I never thought about an added hasp for the console, I know that when mine is just unlatched it wants to fall foward and smash either the wheel, compass or my Northstar (whichever is closest to the seat or footrest) I will probably add it for saftey.

I've got a bigger notch in the side of my helm station for all the wires, hydraulic lines, etc. that pass through my stanchion running from the electronics box down to the area behind your radio.

Good idea securing the helm station. Mine has never come loose but it could get ugly if it did. I notice my fasteners need to be retightened again after the hatch has settled in a bit. I don't like opening that area up any more than I absolutely have to.

We all know the relationship between our wheels and our helm seats is not a good one. Dare I admit to a couple slightly bent wheels hanging in my garage? At least I only did it once. had help the second time. :-)

When I was sea trialing in Carolina we looked at the engines afterwards and bent the wheel. Doug Layton just bent it back by hand; I was shocked how easy it was for him to do...

You can try straightening your wheel as Larry suggests. Mine was well bent and I did not have a shaft to secure the wheel on while I tried to press it back into shape. I don't recommend using your helm shaft for that :-).

I just called Mike in Mac's parts dept and he shipped out a new wheel. I can't recall what it cost but it was not expensive. (Maybe $50 or so?) There is just one nut (under the wheel cap) to remove and your wheel should pull off without too much tugging. The wheel is keyed - you'll notice that when you remove yours. It's an easy fix. Maybe 5 minutes.

Now a little test for anyone who is interested.....

Wheel is to helm seat as ankle locker door is to _______. (No, I have not done this one - but it would be ugly.)
