Hi Mac,
I am looking at the possibility of mounting my safety raft on the foredeck, just in front of the windsheild. Can you give me some advice on what kind of hardware to use, through bolted or self tapping blind screws? If through bolting, how do I remove and replace the material on the ceiling of the cabin to expose the area required?
Thanks,
Steve Mullen

Give me a call and lets discuss the raft you are going to use. Depending on the mounting hardware, there may be an easier way.

I'm also interested in this thread and would love to see pics of mounting ideas. I'm on the fence as to valise stowed in the helm area vs canister mounted on the bow or hardtop and I want to decide before the up-coming season.

Mac first of all suggests that the raft be mounted on the helm roof, however understands peoples safety concerns with that location. So if the raft is to be mounted on the bow he says that you want to first make sure that you are positive about the location. Next you want to make sure that the raft craddle has a large surface area that comes in contact with the bow. In my case the aluminum craddle has two 1.5" wide x 18" long straps, which he felt would be enough. Next rough up the aluminum surface with sand paper and clean the gel coat surface on the bow with something like acetone to make sure there is no wax. Then use 5200 quick set along with no more than 3/4" long screws to penetrate the first layer of fiberglass, but not the internal layer. GOOD LUCK
