Icom radio command mic

I know some of you did not like the command mic in the tower because you could not hear a conversation. Is that the only problem? I was thinking of running a remote speaker in the tower off the main unit so you could hear better. Do you think this will work as well as a 2nd vhf?

The remarks I have had from people listening to me when transmitting on the command mic where not good. Most people said it has a "man in the can" tinny sound.

I installed a Icom 302 up top and like the redundancy of an additional radio & antenna.

The command mic works, but IMO, not the best option.

I had one and couldn't hear a thing. I threw a 2nd radio up there; hooked up an external speaker to the side of the console and can here everything up there; even when running at speed.
