I will second Jimbos responce. Man I cant wait much longer for mine to be done. I don't know which is worse, getting a new boat and not being able to use it or waiting all winter for one.

I have a question about you radar antenna. It looks like you have a 4' array. I am putting a 6' on mine and I need to put a offset plate to mount it on. I was wondering how much clearance you have to the front crossbars?

Thanks for your replies. It was realy tough putting her up for the winter. However I did manage to put some nice cod and haddock on board before doing so.
As far as the radar, you are right I have the 4' array. I went with the Northstar 6000i system with the 10.4" at the helm and the 6.4" on the tower. Their second generation radar and sounder are much better than the 1st. And with my limited usage I am pleased. The radar area of the boat is shrunk wrapped now, however I think if you look at the photo's you can see that you should have plenty of room for the 6' array.
My problem is where to mount the safety raft. I purchased a 6 man DBC and would like to mount it on the bow, however it could realy hurt the view out front. I have seen a lot of similar boats with the raft mounted just behind the radar on the helm roof. Are you going to install a safety raft?

Thanks for the comments. I went with the 6BT 370hp for two reasons. First I had sea trialed hull # 1, which had the 370hp's and was pleased with the performance. Second I had issues with the other options in my price catagory. I have heard that the Yanmars have had some serious valve issues and that there is a owners class action suit being put together on those engines. Further the new Cummings 380's with the common rails were brand new and I did not want to be the test bed.
Although I have not had much time on the boat she cruised at 26knts at 2600 rpm, which is fine for me. When I pulled her for the winter the lift had a scale, which showed it weighs 24,000 lbs fuel with fuel.

Mac is trying to get me a pair of the new QSB 420 Cummins. If not I am going with the QSB 380.

As far as the raft, for now I am going to use my switlic pod4 in a valise. Next year I will add a 6 man in a canister with auto release. I see some boats with them on the tower also. Two problems with that. They are very heavy and would be hard to get down in a hurry. Also I dought that it will release and float free if you could not get to it. When I get my boat next month, I will see about where to mount it.

I hope you don't mind, I used one of your pics as my wallpaper. I don't have a nice shot of the boat in the water yet.

What hull # is yours. I am guessing # 10 or 11.

Those 370b's are a strong, proven motor for Cummins. Glad to hear you are making 26 @ cruise. I thought that the boat might need more than that but I guess not. This type of info is what we all need to make sound decisions in the future. Keep us posted.

I have a valise raft on the 28 also. Granted the 32 is 50% more displacement than thr 28 your still putting a 100 pound weight 10' above the water line which cannot be good for your stability in really adverse situations.

I also wonder how an auto inflating raft is supposed to make it out of there. I was at a boat show once and watched one inflate in a demo and they kind of pop out of the canister and fold themselves out as they inflate. I'd be scared it would wedge beneath the console box; under the waist rail; etc. and not make it out of there.

I have thw valise which I keep behind the helm seat and have 2 gumby suits aboard also as I fish GOM sometimes also. 50 degree water will kill you fast.

My hull is #5, it was scheduled to be delivered last Aug., but they got backed up and then weather delayed the delivery further and that's why I did not get it until Nov.

Raft ?'s:
I too have issues with mounting the raft on the helm roof. The DBC 6 man that I purchased weighs almost 150lbs. But anyone who has an express style boat realizes that the forward visibility is an issue. I corresponded with Mac and Lou Codega, the boats designer, about this issue, because I was thinking originally about mounting the raft on the top tower floor, just in front of the tower helm. Both Mac and Codega were not concerned about the performance of the boat with the raft in that location, rather they were concerned about the strength of the tower. Codega felt that in most cases you are not going to wait for the raft to self deploy, so he did not have any concerns with the behind the radar mount location. Mac reccomended that location. I still am not settled on how to go.

To Tom,
I am interested in how you made your decision on the Carolina Classic 32. I sea trialed a number of boats and my decision came down to the Cabo 31 and the CC32. So I corresponded with Lou Codega, who had designed both boats and he felt that although the Cabo was the best fit and finish boat on the market he had learned something in the ten years between the two designs and that the 32CC would be a better riding and drier boat.

Steve, I agree that you will most likely not wait for the raft to auto deploy but think about trying to get it out during all the confusion. This is something that you might or might not have a lot of time to do and god forbid you cant get to it in time, then what do you do. It most likely will not float free from that spot. When I seatrialed the boat I did not pay close attention to see if mounting it on the foredeck would block the view. My first choice is still on the foredeck close to the windshield.

As far as picking the Carolina, I too looked at the Cabo but the deciding factor was the weight and the deep v bottom. No dought you can't beat the finish of a Cabo but As far as ride they are not in the same class.The only other boat that comes close in weight is the Topaz 32 which I did not like. A good friend of mine came on the seatrial with me and that was the first time he saw the boat said he liked it better than the 35 Cabo. I also love that Carolina flair bow. These boats are made to fish, not party.

In the Nantucket Billfish ournament my dumb plebian little CC 28 came back in NE 20-25 from 30 miles below Nantucket at 20 knots in deep water, had to slow to 17-18 knots in the 20-40' inshore channel as it shoaled up and the waves piled up. It sucked and I got soaked through the curtains and launched the boat regularly. I kept dropping the bow moer and more with the tabs and eventually found an equilibrium that kept me on plane and in the water.

A friend on a Cabo 43 had to drop down to 12 knots outside to make headway; another Cabo 35 was reduced to 8 knots all the way home.

They make fun of me for being so little out there in the canyons; I don't have the TV and DVD combination and there sure as hell isn't a teak and holly sole in the cabin. No AC either. Trust me - I was waiting for them at the dock when they got in an hour after I did ;)

What didn't you like about the 32 Topaz. My real turn off is that the windshield is too low and I am looking thru plastic (without wipers) I would expect that on a 32 you should be able to look thru glass!!

I also prefer the look of the CC 32 more than the Topaz. Other than that I felt the Topaz was a well built, nicely laid out boat with a mamouth of an engine room!!

Funny how we see the boat the same way. If I am going to drop over 300Gs on a boat, I want to look through glass when I run standing up.

The 32 CC is a much nicer looking boat and has a better entry at the bow.

I did not like the helm on the Topaz. You cant put large screens flushmounted but you are right about the engine room, it is big. It looked like it was put together well.

The helm on the CC was also segmented into 3 sections but I talked Mac into making it flat so you have more options with electronics. I think that is going to be on all the new 32s.

We all know which is the better boat anyway, don't we.

Where else can you call the company and talk to the president on an everyday basis. That alone is worth it's weight in gold to me.

Topaz has also flattened out their dash for 05 to accept larger flush mount units.

I hope Mac sticks with the dash design on your boat. It gives us more size options for electronics.

I can't agree with you more about the ability to speak with Mac directly and have him answer any question about his boats. This shows me that there is a true "love" in what he does (though the money doesn't hurt :lol: ) and that goes real far in my book!!

I just heard that my local CC dealer has just received his 32 & 28 this week. I am planning to make a run over to check them out this weekend. I'll leave my checkbook at home for now :lol: :lol:

By the way, let us know what engines are in that 32. If they are the 440 yanmar, that is the boat that I took pics of when I was at the factory and are the ones on this site. Although he had 2 boats next to each other and I don't know what the other one had.
