Side Band

Does anyone have a side band radio on their 28. I would like to install one but I don't have a tower for the additional side support needed for the antenna. Can I use an 8 foot antenna for this setup?

I can't tell you much about the antenna but they are a pain to use and keep working right. I think most people are going to sat phones since the price came down plus they are more versatile since you can call anyone. I think the sideband is going by the way of the dinosaur.

Just my opinion if that is worth anything.

The Sat phone is a good idea. I thought most had them as a backup to side bands. Alot easier and portable. I think I'll go that route

i went with a portable sat phone..i dont leave it on the boat unless i go offshore and it works great in the bahamas and upstste ny.

Even the electronic guys will tell you that the Sat phone is the way to go.
