Yes, this is a real old depth finder that is probably original to the boat (2000).

I have one flush mounted in the cockpit (EQ32) and one mounted on the upper station (DE 30) which is basically a remote control unit for the EQ32.

The upper station unit has had problems turning on and sometimes the screen still blinked or was dim when it did turn on. These are back-ups for my main chartplotters, but redunency is always a good thing.

I took the upper unit apart to clean and see if anything appeared loose or corroded. It was actually pretty clean inside and I discovered there is a 3V waffer battery on the bottom side of the main circuit board.

I assume this battery needs to be replaced periodically. Has anyone out there with this old unit experienced similar problems or know the recommended battery replacement cycle? I was able to download the original manual for this unit and there is no mention of the battery or a need to periodically replace it.

Appreciate any inputs
Steve

I have the CX44s and I believe the battery is only for memory when you disconnect from the power source. Mine are 4 years old and have not changed them yet. Maybe I should start thinking about it though.
