I have the Garmin 4212 & 4208 installed and working great. There have been some post on the bottom recorder not being as sharp as the Furuno. I have a Northstar 951 sitting in my dash of the Carolina Classic. Sometimes it works, other times, well that's another story. I would like to remove this unit and replace it with a similiar size bottom machine. I will probably add a shoot thur ducer in the bilge. Any suggestions on which machine?

620 or 585 if you have the room, they basically are the same unit with different size screens. I use the DFF1 networked sounder and it's the same digital technology, they work great.
I have the 585 and it works great. I mounted it in the overhead box but I had to use a homemade bracket to hold it in place because it was too big with the factory mount.

Can the factory mount be removed for flush mounting?

Sure can, most of the ones I see are flush mounted.
