Final Chaos

Just replaced my Furuno 1650 DF and Raytheon radar with the Garmin 5208. It fit great in the dash where the 1650 had been. The Garmin seems easy to use, the chart plotter and radar overlay are excellent and so far fish finder seems very good. The only problem was the 5208 pulled the compass off beyond being calibrated. I replaced the compass with Azimuth 1000, which seems to be unaffected by the 5208.

Hmmmmm. I got one of them old 1650's takin up space on my dash. Never thought of stuffin a 5208 in there. Brilliant! Did you wire that KVH into your 5208? Works great along with my two 4212's and 3206.

I did not wire the KVH into the 5208. Just a stand alone unit.

Please let us know how hard it is to keep the screen clean. I was scared of the touch screen, so I added a 3210 instead.

So far it is not a problem, but I am careful that my fingers are clean and dry. I assume a fish scale or salt would not be good for it.

Reagrding possible scratching of the screen, give these a try I have used them for several years now. They are cheap, last at least a season and will keep your display screen brand new.
They also have an Ebay store to use and with over 24,000 purchases have a 99.95% feedback.
